On Thursday, the 22nd, a severe cold wave will hit the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions, with morning temperatures expected to drop to around minus 10 degrees Celsius. Heavy snowfall is also forecasted, especially along the west coast.
According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration on the 21st, due to the influence of cold air descending from the north, the morning low on the 22nd is expected to range from minus 11 to minus 4 degrees Celsius, while the daytime high will be between minus 1 and 2 degrees Celsius.
In particular, strong winds will make it feel even colder, and daytime temperatures in most areas are expected to remain below freezing, resulting in very cold conditions.
Snowfall is also expected to continue. Snow is forecasted in Gwangju, the west coast of Jeonnam, the central inland region, and the western coast of the southern region until the 22nd.
The expected snowfall is up to more than 10 centimeters on the west coast of Jeonnam, and about 1 to 5 centimeters in Gwangju, the central inland of Jeonnam, and the western coast of the southern region. As of the afternoon of the 21st, a heavy snow advisory is in effect for eight cities and counties: Jangseong, Yeongam, Muan, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, Mokpo, Shinan (excluding Heuksan-myeon), and Jindo.
The Meteorological Administration predicted that with heavy snowfall per hour in the west coast region, there is a possibility that the heavy snow warning will be expanded.
In contrast, a dry weather advisory has been issued for the eastern part of Jeonnam, including Yeosu and Gwangyang, highlighting the difference in weather conditions.
An official from the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration said, "With the severe cold expected to continue for the time being, there will be many slippery roads due to frozen snow. Please reduce speed when driving and pay special attention to pedestrian safety and facility management."
