Yongin Mayor Lee Sangil Meets Iligan City Delegation from the Philippines... Discusses Friendship and Exchange Initiatives

Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, held a meeting with the delegation from Iligan City, Philippines, who visited the mayor's reception room at city hall on the 21st, to discuss ways to promote friendship and exchanges between the two cities.

The Iligan City delegation in attendance included Mayor Frederick Wee Xiao and his wife, Maria Teresa Padilla Xiao, attorney Roberto Qud Padilla, Padilla Hanna May, Director of the Tourism Office, Honorary Ambassador Ko Yunkwon, and international exchange advisors Kim Yujin and Yoo Beomdong.


Iligan City is located in the northern part of Mindanao Island in the southern Philippines, covers an area of 813 square kilometers, and has a population of approximately 390,000. Known as the "City of Waterfalls," it is the industrial center of southern Philippines, with key industries such as hydropower, steel, cement, and heavy industry.


Mayor Lee introduced Yongin's mega semiconductor project, as well as its tourism and agriculture sectors, to Mayor Xiao. In response, Mayor Xiao expressed his intention to foster friendly relations with Yongin and proposed exchanges in the education sector, including universities.


Mayor Lee stated, "I understand that Iligan City is well-equipped with facilities such as hydropower and ports, and that its agricultural production and processing industries are also well-developed. I hope this meeting will serve as an opportunity for the two cities to communicate and build closer ties."


Mayor Xiao replied, "I hope the two cities will continue to engage in dialogue and actively expand exchanges, especially in areas where practical cooperation is possible, such as culture."


After the meeting, Mayor Lee and the Philippine delegation visited the Yongin Agricultural Technology Center to tour institutions and facilities related to agriculture.
