This lecture is held in conjunction with the ongoing special exhibition, "From Impressionism to Early Modernism: Collectors of Light," and will examine how the trends of Western modern art, including Impressionism, were received and transformed in Korean modern art.

The lecture will be delivered by Yoo Hongjun, Director of the National Museum of Korea. The exhibition focuses on the Robert Lehman Collection from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, highlighting major works from Impressionism to early Modernism under five themes: "The Body," "Portraits and Individuality," "Nature," "From City to Countryside," and "In the Waves."

During the lecture, based on representative Impressionist works featured in the exhibition, Yoo will compare and analyze how early 20th-century Korean modern painters adopted Western painting and developed their own visual language. Focusing on leading figures of Korean modern art such as Kim Kwanho, Oh Jiho, Kim Jukyung, and Lee Inseong, the lecture will introduce how the exhibition's five themes have been reinterpreted and uniquely transformed within Korean society and history.

Registration for the lecture will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through online pre-registration starting January 22.
