Chairman Park Doohyung: "The Semiconductor Industry Is National Security... Minimizing Local Impact Is Essential" Park Doohyung, chairman of Yeoju City Council, is participating in the "Semiconductor Protecting the Nation Challenge," which is being conducted to raise awareness of the national importance of the semiconductor industry on the 21st. This challenge is a relay campaign initiated out of concern for safeguarding the competitiveness of semiconductors, a core strategic industry of South Korea. Chairman Park recognized this not as a movement to advocate for a specific region or individual project, but as an act of public responsibility to protect the nation’s industrial competitiveness and the foundation for future growth, and participated accordingly.

Chairman Park emphasized, “The semiconductor industry is a strategic sector directly linked to the national economy, security, and jobs for future generations. It is never desirable, from a national perspective, to make this industry the subject of regional conflict or political strife.”

He further stated, “Since speed and trust are key to policy, it must be pursued consistently under the standard of national competitiveness, rather than being swayed by political logic.”

However, Chairman Park also stressed, “In the process of supporting national strategic industries, excessive burdens should not be imposed on specific regions.” He added, “The issue of expanding extra-high voltage transmission lines to supply power to the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster should be promoted in the context of national industrial competitiveness, but measures to minimize damage to the health, environment, and property rights of residents in affected areas, including Yeoju, must be implemented simultaneously.”

Chairman Park plans to continue supporting efforts to ensure that core national industrial policies are not shaken by political circumstances. At the same time, he will persistently call for policy improvements at the council level to address potential local damages arising from the construction of infrastructure such as transmission lines. He nominated Oh Hyeja, chairwoman of Yangpyeong County Council, as the next participant in the challenge, expressing his support for and expectations of the campaign’s purpose.
