On January 20, Hwaseong City held a consortium agreement ceremony at Hwaseong Sports Complex to promote this year's 'Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project.'

This project aims to reduce fuel costs and decrease carbon emissions by installing renewable energy sources such as solar power, solar thermal, and geothermal systems in residential, public, and commercial buildings. It is an environmentally friendly initiative.

The consortium consists of the Korea Energy Agency's Renewable Energy Center (the main agency), Hwaseong City (the lead organization), residents of Jeongnam-myeon, and construction companies including Geochang Co., Ltd., Hyundai Enertech Co., Ltd., Jonghap Groundwater Development Co., Ltd., EcoEnersys Co., Ltd., Herit Co., Ltd., and Dongjin Co., Ltd.

A total of 2.84 billion won will be invested in the project, including 902 million won in national funds secured through the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment's public offering in December last year, 1.424 billion won in municipal funds, and 513 million won in private investment.

Renewable energy generation facilities will be installed at a total of 104 sites in Jeongnam-myeon industrial complex and nearby villages, including 66 solar power systems (845kW), 26 geothermal systems (455kW), and 12 solar thermal systems (430kW), for a combined capacity of 1,730kW.

Once the project is completed, the area will produce 1,769,910kWh of electricity annually, which is equivalent to replacing 341.73 toe (tons of oil equivalent) of fossil energy.

The consortium plans to hold a community briefing session this month, begin the design work, and complete the installation of the generation facilities by the end of the year.
