Ministry of Education and National Assembly Meet South Sudan's Ministers of Education and Health... Seeking Sustainable Education and Healthcare Infrastructure

Vice Minister Choi Eunok Discusses South Korea-South Sudan Educational Cooperation on January 21
National Assembly Hosts Forum on Reconstruction and Peace on January 20

The Ministry of Education and the National Assembly Africa Forum have met with a delegation from the South Sudanese government to explore ways to cooperate in the fields of education and healthcare.


On January 21, the Ministry of Education announced that Vice Minister Choi Eunok held a meeting at the Government Complex Sejong with Madut Biar Yel, Minister of Higher Education of South Sudan, and Sarah Cleto Rial, Minister of Health of South Sudan, to discuss measures to strengthen educational cooperation between South Korea and South Sudan.


At the "101st National Assembly Africa Forum & South Sudan Ministers of Education and Health Visit to Korea National Assembly Meeting," held on January 20 at the National Assembly Members' Office Building, participants discussed cooperation strategies tailored to the educational conditions and needs of South Sudan. The meeting, held under the theme "Discussing National Reconstruction and Peace," focused on seeking sustainable educational cooperation for the future generations of South Sudan and strengthening healthcare infrastructure.


The meeting was attended by Assemblyman Lee Heonseung, a member of the National Assembly Africa Forum, as well as Kang Kyungsook, Kim Gun, Kim Jongyang, Kim Jooyoung, Myung Sungkyu, Bae Joonyoung, Paek Sunhee, Cho Baesook, Lee Manhee, and Lim Jongdeuk. From the South Sudanese side, Madut Biar Yel, Minister of Education; Sarah Cleto Rial, Minister of Health; Madel Malek Agei, Minister of Technology; and Moses Deng Malual Dol, Director of the Pharmaceutical Authority, participated.


Both parties focused on improving access to education and learning environments for children and youth in South Sudan, supporting educational initiatives utilizing AI, introducing digital learning content, providing tailored learning support to enhance basic academic skills, collaborating on AI and digital education and training programs for teachers, and developing phased plans to expand educational infrastructure in vulnerable regions.


Currently, the absence of resident embassies in both countries limits exchanges, but this meeting is expected to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy and human networks based on mutual trust. Assemblywoman Kang Kyungsook stated, "I hope this meeting will serve as an important turning point not only for educational and healthcare cooperation between Korea and South Sudan, but also for deepening diplomatic and economic relations."
