Korea Energy Technology University (KENTECH) announced on January 21 that it is recruiting high school and university-linked energy engineering research clubs for 2026 to expand career exploration opportunities in the engineering field for high school students.
The energy engineering research club, which began its first recruitment in 2024, started with 18 high schools and has expanded to 44 high schools nationwide as of last year. The club, which was initially planned to reach 50 high schools by 2030, has already achieved this year's target ahead of schedule and will continue to support additional high schools that wish to establish new clubs.
In the early stages, support for establishing clubs was focused on high schools with engineering-centered curricula, but as demand from general high schools increased, the range of eligible schools was expanded. Schools wishing to establish a club can apply through an official letter. The application period runs until February 28.
Participating high school students will conduct research and inquiry activities using research materials (published 10 times a year) written directly by KENTECH students, and will have opportunities for future-oriented interdisciplinary energy engineering research through mentoring programs and an energy engineering symposium. In addition, if they later enroll at KENTECH, they can receive up to three academic credits, one for each year of high school.
Jang Gwangjae, Director of Admissions, said, "Supporting the energy engineering research clubs has been part of our master plan to contribute to high school education since the university's foundation," adding, "We hope this initiative will inspire a diverse range of high school students to develop an interest in engineering and explore related career paths."
