Factorial Seongsu Becomes Korea's First to Receive International Smart Building Certification with Samsung b.IoT

Integrated Operation of Building Facilities
IoT and AI-Based Control
Application of Digital Twin Technology

The Factorial Seongsu building, which has adopted Samsung Electronics' building integration solution 'b.IoT,' has become the first in Korea to receive the international smart building certification 'SmartScore' at the 'Gold' level.

Samsung Electronics' b.IoT is an AI-based solution that integrates the operation of key building facilities such as HVAC, lighting, and power into a single platform. SmartScore is a global smart building certification system operated by WiredScore, a company specializing in smart city certifications. It evaluates the implementation, actual effectiveness, and efficiency of cutting-edge technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), AI, and big data applied to buildings.

SmartScore assigns ratings in the order of Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Certified based on its evaluation. Major global landmark buildings such as Texas Tower in Houston, USA, and The Henderson in Hong Kong have also received this certification.

Factorial Seongsu, which is the first in Korea to receive the SmartScore Gold rating, is an office building developed in 2020 on a former logistics site near Seongsu Station. From the planning stage, Samsung Electronics collaborated on the concept of a 'Tech Ready Building.'

The SmartScore Gold rating is awarded to advanced smart buildings that meet a wide range of requirements, providing high operational efficiency for building managers-such as energy management-and a comfortable environment for tenants, including indoor air quality management, all based on cutting-edge technology.

Samsung Electronics' b.IoT solution played a key role in Factorial Seongsu achieving the Gold rating. b.IoT enables administrators to monitor the overall operational status of the building in real time and control it efficiently according to the situation. For example, the AI-based system analyzes the building's energy consumption, facility operation status, and heating and cooling efficiency, predicts usage patterns to support optimal energy management, and sends alerts in real time if any facility operates abnormally.

It also supports integration with the 'DVM (Digital Variable Multi) geothermal system,' which utilizes underground thermal energy to provide efficient heating and cooling, thereby enhancing the building's energy efficiency.

By operating the central HVAC and system air conditioning at optimal levels with the b.IoT solution, Factorial Seongsu reduced its energy consumption by approximately 27% from June 1 to September 30 last year.

In particular, b.IoT supports 'digital twin' technology, which creates a 3D model of the real building in a virtual space and visualizes the status of all facilities in real time. Administrators can use the visualized 3D model in the virtual environment to simulate various management scenarios, enabling more efficient building operation and management.

Park Chanwoo, Vice President of the B2B Integrated Offering Center at Samsung Electronics, said, "This certification has validated the convenience and competitiveness of the b.IoT solution, which features cutting-edge technologies such as AI and digital twin. We will continue to advance our technology with the goal of realizing AI-based 'autonomous operation buildings.'"
