On January 20, Archbishop Chung Soon-taick, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee for the 2027 Seoul World Youth Day, officially launched the pilgrimage of the symbolic items through the "Blessing Ceremony for the World Youth Day Logo Sculpture" held at Myeongdong Cathedral in Seoul.
During the blessing ceremony, the World Youth Day logo sculpture engraved with the names of each diocese across the country was unveiled. Archbishop Chung emphasized that the sculpture will serve as a symbol reminding those preparing for the event of their calling and responsibility, and urged everyone to join forces in preparing for the festival that will welcome young people from around the world.
The logo sculpture, designed by a youth volunteer, was produced using 100% recyclable honeycomb board material to reflect World Youth Day’s commitment to environmental protection and the restoration of the order of creation. The sculpture will be delivered to each diocese and utilized at diocesan events and activities.
The cross and the icon of the Virgin Mary, which are the symbols of World Youth Day, will begin their pilgrimage across 15 dioceses nationwide starting with the Diocese of Wonju on January 21, and are scheduled to return to the Archdiocese of Seoul in June 2027.
