The Mainbiz Association (Korea Management Innovation Association of SMEs) and Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) announced on January 21 that they jointly hosted the "1st Global Frontier Industry-Academia Technology Cooperation Forum" at POSTECH Change Up Ground on January 20, where they held substantive discussions to establish an industry-academia cooperation system in the food tech sector.
The forum was organized to share the latest technological trends in key areas of the food tech industry, such as smart factory-type food production, robotics-based cooking, and automation in food manufacturing. It also aimed to identify collaboration topics based on field demand, promote joint research and technology development, and explore an action-oriented cooperation model that leads to MOUs and connections with government and local authorities.

The association has been promoting this forum with the view that it is necessary to enhance technological exchanges and research and development (R&D) cooperation linked to university research capabilities in order to strengthen the technological competitiveness of its member companies. To this end, it has been building and advancing a cooperation channel with POSTECH's food tech research team.
The forum consisted of research introductions, technology presentations and discussions, site tours of research facilities, and visits to the accelerator research institute. Participating companies were able not only to hear explanations of research achievements but also to directly observe the research infrastructure and assess practical applicability on site. In particular, POSTECH shared that it continues to pursue R&D and technological cooperation aimed at supporting companies in enhancing productivity and competitiveness through food tech research that integrates cutting-edge technologies into the food industry.
Kim Myungjin, President of the Mainbiz Association, stated, "Food tech is a convergence industry that combines robotics, AI, and data. For companies to quickly secure competitiveness, it is important to solve on-site problems through cooperation with universities. We will develop this forum into an action-oriented industry-academia cooperation platform that extends to joint research and support projects."
