Lim Jongsik, Superintendent of the Gyeongbuk Office of Education, announced that at 9:30 a.m. on January 21, he will meet with Lee Cheolwoo, Governor of North Gyeongsang Province, at the main building of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Government, to discuss key educational issues related to the administrative integration of Daegu and North Gyeongsang.
During this meeting, the main topic of discussion will be the need to establish sufficient institutional measures for the education sector from the legislative stage of the special law, to ensure that the public nature and autonomy of education are stably maintained throughout the administrative integration process.
In addition, they plan to discuss ways to ensure stable educational funding and support so that the educational environment in the Gyeongbuk region is not undermined after the administrative system changes.
Superintendent Lim emphasized, "Educational autonomy must not be undermined during the process of administrative integration," adding, "Separate standards and principles that reflect the unique characteristics and public nature of education need to be institutionally incorporated." He further stressed, "To ensure the stable operation of educational administration, direct election of the superintendent, autonomy in financial management, and a responsible management system must all be sufficiently considered."
