Hongcheon County Mobilizes All-Out Efforts for Early Commencement of Yongmun-Hongcheon Metropolitan Railroad in First Half of 2026

After successfully passing the preliminary feasibility study for the Yongmun-Hongcheon Metropolitan Railroad, Hongcheon County in Gangwon Province has begun making vigorous efforts toward the early commencement of the project.

Hongcheon County (Governor Shin Youngjae) continued its efforts for the early start of the Yongmun-Hongcheon Metropolitan Railroad project by visiting the National Assembly, the political center of South Korea, on January 20, following visits to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the National Railroad Authority on January 14.

On this day, Hongcheon County officials visited the offices of Lim Ija, Chairperson of the Planning and Economy Committee, Maeng Sungkyu, Chairperson of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, as well as local representatives Yoo Sangbum and Kim Seongyo, and also the offices of Heo Young and Han Giho. They expressed their gratitude for the active cooperation and support in passing the preliminary feasibility study for the Yongmun-Hongcheon Metropolitan Railroad, and also requested continued attention and cooperation for the swift progress of the project.

A Hongcheon County official stated, "Passing the preliminary feasibility study for the Yongmun-Hongcheon Metropolitan Railroad marks a major turning point for the future development of Hongcheon County, and from now on, we will make every effort for the early commencement of construction."

Hongcheon County plans to focus its administrative capacity on ensuring the early commencement of the metropolitan railroad project in the first half of 2026, as well as developing strategies for railroad-linked development, including station area development.
