National AI Strategy Committee and Broadcasting Association Forge Cooperation... "AI and Media Are a Community of Shared Destiny" Moonyoung Lim, Vice Chairman of the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy Committee (second from the left), held a luncheon meeting with officials from the Korea Broadcasting Association on the 20th to discuss the mutual growth of the AI industry and the media and content industries. This meeting was organized based on a shared understanding that, in the rapidly changing global landscape of AI and media, a strategic partnership must be established for the AI and broadcasting media industries to grow together. The participants sought solutions to copyright issues in the AI era and discussed ways to promote the domestic content industry.

Attendees from the committee included Vice Chairman Moonyoung Lim, Data Division Head Baek Eunok, and Social Division Head Yoo Jaeyeon. From the Korea Broadcasting Association, Chairman Bang Moonshin (President of SBS), President Park Jangbeom of KBS, President Ahn Hyungjun of MBC, and President Kim Yooyeol of EBS were present.

The association expressed its support for the committee’s efforts to make Korea one of the top three AI powerhouses and stated its willingness to cooperate in related discussions as a key pillar of the nation. However, the association also voiced concerns that if the ongoing AI transformation of the K-content industry-central to Korea’s soft power-relies solely on the technology of overseas big tech companies, it could ultimately lead to a decline in global competitiveness.

Additionally, as part of the “AX Strategy to Protect Media Content Sovereignty in the AI Era,” the association proposed securing media-specialized models suitable for the domestic broadcasting industry and establishing a “reasonable distribution and transaction structure for the learning data of broadcasters’ content copyrights.”

Baek Eunok, Head of the Data Division, and Yoo Jaeyeon, Head of the Social Division, stated that, including the topics discussed today, the committee will actively work with relevant ministries to devise various measures to achieve three goals: empowering K-content with the wings of AI, enabling the AI industry to secure high-quality data, and ensuring that copyright holders receive fair rights.

Vice Chairman Moonyoung Lim remarked, “AI and media are no longer competitors in a zero-sum game; they are a community of shared destiny that amplifies each other’s value to create a plus-sum outcome.”

He added, “The committee will serve as a strong bridge and supporter to ensure that the media and content industries can confidently lead the ‘AI Renaissance’ as key players. We will also develop ways for both sides to share the future value of the AI era together.”
