The National Credit Union Federation of Korea announced on January 20 that the "2025 MG Hope Sharing Youth Local Support Project," jointly promoted with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Together Foundation, has been successfully completed.
The "MG Hope Sharing Youth Local Support Project" was launched to address key local community issues such as the risk of regional extinction and youth outmigration, which are major policy priorities of the current administration. The project is significant in that it established a public-private partnership local growth model, positioning young entrepreneurs as key agents in solving local problems, with participation from the financial, administrative, and private sectors.
Through a call for applications and a review process that began in March last year, 10 youth-led local companies were selected from among youth villages and youth village enterprises designated and supported by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety nationwide. A total of 500 million won was provided in support through this initiative.
The 10 organizations ultimately selected have become key players in their communities, developing business ideas to address core local challenges such as declining commercial districts, weakened communities, and a lack of cultural and lifestyle services. They have also produced tangible results, including the creation of new jobs within their regions.
Since 2018, the National Credit Union Federation of Korea has discovered and supported social economy organizations and has promoted annual employment and entrepreneurship support projects to create jobs for young people.
Kim In, Chairman of the National Credit Union Federation of Korea, stated, "We will continue to focus on various local community issues and strive to ensure that Saemaul Geumgo, as a community-based financial cooperative, contributes to revitalizing regions through the mutual growth of youth and local communities."
