Fostering Linked Industries in Gongju, Buyeo, and Yesan
Full-Scale Launch of Regional Extinction Response Package
Chungnam Technopark has secured more than 4 billion KRW in national funding by winning a project to foster local industries centered around Gongju, Buyeo, and Yesan.
Chungnam Technopark announced on the 20th that it has secured 4.08 billion KRW in national funding after three projects were selected in the '2026-2027 Local Industry Development Project for Cities, Counties, and Districts' promoted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
The Local Industry Development Project for Cities, Counties, and Districts is a joint initiative by central government ministries aimed at non-metropolitan areas experiencing population decline, designed to advance local industries and improve job opportunities and settlement conditions. As the lead organization, Chungnam Technopark is responsible for the overall planning and management of the project.
The selected regions are Gongju City, Buyeo County, and Yesan County. The project will be implemented as a 'customized package' that combines policies from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups with relevant systems from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, tailored to each region's industrial characteristics.
Gongju City will develop high value-added products and pioneer overseas markets in connection with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Gongju Chestnut Premium Center project.
By integrating policies from the Ministry of Justice that support the settlement of foreign workers, the city aims to ease labor shortages, create 33 new jobs, and generate 2.5 billion KRW in sales.
Buyeo County plans to expand its representative agricultural brand 'Goodtrae' into the dessert industry. By revitalizing local food supply, improving rural settlement conditions, and linking workforce support policies, the county aims to enhance the added value of agricultural products, create 20 jobs, and achieve 1 billion KRW in sales.
Yesan County will pursue industrial transformation based on its specialized root industry cluster.
The county aims to address workforce supply issues by improving settlement conditions for young people and linking region-specific visa programs, and to achieve 33 new jobs and 3.5 billion KRW in sales through a transition to digital and eco-friendly industries.
Since 2023, Chungnam Technopark has continued to support industrial development in areas at risk of population extinction within the province. With these additional selections, the continuity and scalability of regional industrial policies have been further strengthened.
President Seo Kyuseok stated, "This project is a regional extinction response model that goes beyond business support to integrate industrial and population policies," adding, "We will support each region's core industries in establishing a sustainable growth foundation through cooperation between central ministries and local governments."
