Questioning the Direction of Life
Is luck something you are born with, or is it something you create as you live your life? An e-book that explores this question-bridging perspectives from Eastern classics and the everyday experiences of modern people-has arrived for readers.
Kim Kyungtae, Chairman of Our Yongin Saemaeul Geumgo, published the e-book 'Unyeondeok' through Jakgawa Publishing on January 9. He delivers the message that luck is not a matter of chance, but rather a flow of life shaped by relationships, attitudes, and accumulated choices.
'Unyeondeok' discusses three pillars that run through life-luck (運), connection (緣), and virtue (德)-based on perspectives of change and balance found in ancient classics. Instead of complex theories, the author focuses on the idea that, just as seasons change, there are times and flows in life. Using everyday language, he explains how encounters with people, moments of decision, and the gradual building of trust can alter the course of one’s life.
Drawing on his experience in both large domestic and global corporations, his public sector work at the Blue House and the National Assembly, and his current role as CEO of a local financial institution, Kim weaves together real-life examples and reflective essays about moments of choice in life and organizations. Rather than offering ready-made answers, he encourages readers to reflect on their own lives by posing thoughtful questions.
Notably, this release was made available as an e-book prior to a print edition.
The author stated, “I hoped readers would take a moment to read a page during their commute or a short break, slowly reflecting on their day and their choices.”
The book calmly examines how luck is created, how it flows, and how it can change direction depending on one’s mindset, through everyday topics such as human relationships, attitudes in the face of crisis, and the time it takes to build trust.
A representative from the publisher described 'Unyeondeok' as “a work that stands at the intersection of self-development and humanities essays,” adding, “It is an e-book that approaches readers concerned about the direction of their lives without burden.”
Kim currently lectures on leadership and public administration, continuing his educational activities that connect real-world experience with classical reflection.
The e-book 'Unyeondeok' is available through major online bookstores and e-book platforms.
