Gwangyang Steelworks of POSCO, led by General Manager Ko Jaeyoon, welcomed the New Year on January 19 by conducting a special meal service volunteer activity for the underprivileged at the YWCA Free Meal Service Center in Gwangyang-eup, Gwangyang City.

The "Gwangyang Pohang Technical High School Love Sharing Volunteer Group," comprised of Gwangyang Steelworks employees and alumni of Pohang Technical High School, took the initiative to visit the free meal center in person and lead the volunteer effort for this New Year’s special meal service. On this day, the YWCA Free Meal Service Center saw a large turnout, with over 100 local seniors attending.

The volunteers served warm special meals to the seniors who visited the meal center on this cold winter day, and also spent time conversing with them during the meal, making every effort to provide emotional support.

In addition, the volunteers contributed to improving the environment for citizens visiting the meal center by repairing and painting outdoor rest area benches and other facilities.

After the meal service activity, a rice donation ceremony was held to help ensure a warm winter for local seniors living alone and other underprivileged groups. The Gwangyang Pohang Technical High School Alumni Association donated 500 kilograms of rice, which they had prepared themselves, to help local seniors enjoy a more abundant winter.

A representative of the "Gwangyang Pohang Technical High School Love Sharing Volunteer Group" stated, "We hope that today’s sharing activity brings warmth to our neighbors who are struggling during this cold spell. I would also like to express my deep gratitude to our volunteers, who always work quietly for the benefit of others."

Meanwhile, Gwangyang Steelworks is taking the lead in supporting the underprivileged in the Gwangyang region as the New Year begins. The company is actively carrying out various sharing activities for the local community, including providing assistance to and from local children's centers, delivering lunch boxes, presenting handcrafted wooden items to local children's centers, conducting play classes at welfare centers for people with disabilities, and organizing New Year’s rice cake soup sharing events at local village halls.
