Proven Health Risk Reduction Effects of Autonomous Air Purification
On January 20, SK Intellix announced that it had demonstrated the health risk reduction effects of its wellness robot, NAMUHX, through a paper published in the Journal of Indoor Environment and Odor of the Korean Society for Indoor Environment.
This study was conducted to objectively verify the air quality improvement effects of the autonomous driving-based "Air Solution" feature installed in NAMUHX's first model, "A1," which was developed to overcome the limitations of conventional stationary air purifiers. The feature was applied in an actual residential environment. The research involved NAMUHX, Professor Lee Cheolmin's team from the Risk Assessment Research Institute at Seokyeong University, and AirLab, a company specializing in air research.
The research team analyzed the health risk reduction effects and air purification speed of NAMUHX through comparative experiments with natural ventilation and stationary air purifiers. As a result, the autonomous driving-based "Air Solution" feature of NAMUHX demonstrated superior performance compared to stationary air purifiers in all evaluation categories, including: reduction of both acute and chronic health risks, elimination of pollution blind spots, and air purification speed.
NAMUHX showed a clear effect in reducing health risks. In terms of the "asthma hospitalization rate," which indicates the likelihood of hospitalization due to asthma exacerbation, stationary air purifiers reduced the rate by about 21.3%, whereas NAMUHX achieved a reduction of over 44.5%, recording an effect approximately 2.3 times greater. In the "carcinogenic risk" assessment, which indicates the potential risk of cancer, NAMUHX also recorded a value about 0.62 times lower than that of stationary air purifiers.
An SK Intellix representative stated, "NAMUHX, which detects and moves toward sources of pollution on its own, is the most innovative indoor air quality management method, surpassing the limitations of stationary air purifiers. We plan to expand our services to various wellness fields such as security and personal health care, and develop into an integrated wellness platform that cares for all aspects of daily life."
