JTBC's New Drama "Everyone Is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness" to Air This Year
Director Cha Younghoon of "When the Camellia Blooms" Joins the Project
Exploring "Jealousy" Instead of "Adoration"
Writer Park Haeyoung, who touched hearts with "My Mister" and captured the thirst of ordinary people with "My Liberation Notes," is set to return. This time, she will explore the most sensitive and hidden emotions within humans: worthlessness and jealousy.
On January 20, JTBC announced the main cast lineup for "Everyone Is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness," which is scheduled to air in the first half of this year. The drama tells the story of a person whose life is stagnant among successful friends, depicting their envy and jealousy toward others and their desperate efforts to hide their sense of worthlessness. While her previous works offered healing through solidarity and liberation, this new project will focus on psychological portrayals of confronting deep-seated inferiority and finding peace.
Actors Koo Kyohwan and Go Younjung have been cast as the faces representing the drama’s raw and poignant emotions. Koo Kyohwan, who has established a unique presence across both film and OTT platforms, will make his first appearance as a lead in a television drama with this project. He will play Hwang Dongman, the only aspiring director among the members of the film industry clique "The Eight" who has yet to make his debut. Outwardly, he appears to be floundering, but internally, he is plagued by anxiety-a duality that is expected to be amplified by Koo’s distinctive acting style.
Go Younjung will play Byun Euna, a film company producer known as "Axe." Renowned for her sharp scenario reviews and cold demeanor, she becomes entangled with the anxious aspiring director Hwang Dongman, forming a relationship that fluctuates between subtle tension and camaraderie.
Oh Jungse will portray Park Kyungse, a successful director with a love-hate relationship with Hwang Dongman, while Kang Malgeum will play his wife, Ko Hyejin, who is also the head of the film company, adding realism to the story. Park Haejoon will take on the role of Hwang Jinman, Dongman’s older brother, a former poet now working as a day laborer.
The series will be directed by Cha Younghoon, who previously showcased warm humanism in "When the Camellia Blooms" and "Welcome to Samdalri."
