Byeongryul Kwak and Yoonjoo Kim Promoted to MD Partners
Joonghoon Lee Joins as New MD Partner
Strengthening AI Transformation Capabilities
Boston Consulting Group (BCG) Korea has announced new appointments for its Managing Director & Partner (MD Partner) positions. The company promoted internal candidates and also brought in an external expert with proven experience in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation execution.
On January 20, BCG Korea announced the promotion of Partners Byeongryul Kwak and Yoonjoo Kim to new MD Partners, and the recruitment of Joonghoon Lee as a new MD Partner. This move aims to strengthen the firm’s role as an Artificial Intelligence Transformation (AX) Partner, which goes beyond strategy formulation to take responsibility for execution and performance delivery, in response to AI-driven industrial restructuring and shifts in industrial structures.
With these appointments, BCG Korea has established a leadership team of 30, including 7 Senior Partners and 23 MD Partners. This is the largest among foreign consulting firms operating in Korea.
New MD Partner Byeongryul Kwak is an expert in service operations. He has led numerous projects focused on operational model innovation, cost structure transformation, and generative AI-based process innovation, primarily in non-manufacturing sectors such as finance, telecommunications, and retail.
New MD Partner Yoonjoo Kim is a specialist in institutional investors and private equity (PE), providing strategic advisory services across key investment decisions, including acquisitions and divestitures, portfolio value enhancement, and the advancement of investment strategies.
New MD Partner Joonghoon Lee, who joins from BCG X, has led AI and data-driven decision-making system projects and work productivity innovation initiatives across major industries such as finance, manufacturing, heavy industry, and energy. With experience in implementing AI transformation-from technology adoption and organizational integration to performance realization-he excels at connecting corporate growth strategies to tangible business results.
With these MD Partner promotions and recruitment, BCG Korea plans to provide more systematic support for Korean companies and management teams as they navigate business restructuring centered on AI and the accelerating transformation of traditional industry structures. The firm intends to strengthen its role in accompanying clients from planning to execution and performance realization through an integrated approach spanning organization, operations, technology, and data.
To achieve this, BCG will enhance its collaborative model by combining the global firm’s industry- and function-specific expertise, the AI and digital execution capabilities of BCG X, and the industry-specialized professionals at the Seoul office, enabling a single team to take end-to-end responsibility from strategy to execution and value creation.
Hwang Hyungjun, CEO of BCG Korea, stated, "This partner appointment is an opportunity to strengthen the strategic and execution capabilities required in the AI era, building on the achievements BCG Korea has accumulated so far. We will continue to accompany Korean companies throughout their transformation journey, from strategy development to execution and value creation, delivering real results every step of the way."
