On January 20, the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation announced that it will offer a limited sale of “linked banknotes” featuring the 45th panel of the 1,000 won bill and the 16th panel of the 5,000 won bill.
Linked banknotes refer to commemorative currency that is sold in an uncut, connected format rather than as individual notes. The 1,000 won bill will be available as a full sheet, while the 5,000 won bill will be sold as a 16-panel sheet, which is half of a 32-panel full sheet. This marks the first sale of linked banknotes in four years, since 2021, making them particularly rare.

The corporation will sell the 45-panel set of 1,000 won bills for 61,500 won per set, and the 16-panel set of 5,000 won bills for 102,400 won per set. Purchases can be made through the corporation’s online shop, and delivery will be completed within two weeks after payment is received.
The linked banknotes can serve as a unique gift for Lunar New Year. The corporation explained that, as it is customary to give New Year’s money during the holiday, these connected banknotes could make for a special gift.
Seong Changhun, President of the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation, stated, “Linked banknotes are a type of commemorative item that allows people to collect currency in a unique way. We hope that Korean currency, as a representative work of art, will go beyond being a simple means of transaction and become something the public can collect and use to convey special meaning.”
