"Will It Follow the Tanghulu Trend?" Doubts Over Craze's Longevity

The "Dubai Jjondeuk Cookie" (hereafter referred to as Dujjon Cookie), which has emerged as a phenomenon in the dessert world, is now being sold at completely unrelated businesses such as bedding stores, gukbap restaurants, and chicken feet eateries, placing it at the center of controversy. Some online users view this as the peak of the trend and mention consumer fatigue, while others note that there are still lines of customers waiting to buy it, indicating the craze continues.

Everyone Is Jumping In for Profit... Now Even Bedding Stores Join Gukbap and Chicken Feet Shops Selling "Dujjon Cookie" A bedding store has emerged that sells the recently popular dessert "Dubai Jjondeuk Cookie (Dujjon Cookie)," attracting significant attention. Online community

On January 19, a post titled "There is a bedding store that sells Dujjon Cookie" appeared on an online community, drawing significant attention. The author wrote, "A bedding store in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul is selling Dujjon Cookie, and it was even sold out." Some interpret the reason for non-food stores carrying Dujjon Cookie as a type of "bait product strategy" to increase their exposure on delivery apps.

In fact, there have been a series of posts on social networking services (SNS) reporting sightings of Dujjon Cookie being sold at barbecue restaurants, sushi restaurants, naengmyeon shops, and even noodle and sashimi restaurants. However, online users are divided in their reactions to this phenomenon. Some commented, "Now even chicken feet eateries, bedding stores, and gukbap restaurants are selling it. The trend has reached its peak," while others said, "They don't even offer delivery, but they're doing this because it's profitable."

Some users have raised concerns about potential violations of food hygiene laws. There were also worried comments such as, "Did the bedding store register as a food retailer?" and "Who knows if their hygiene standards are acceptable?" On the other hand, some people mentioned the ongoing queues and consumer demand, saying, "I haven't tried it yet. The lines are too long, so I'll wait until the hype dies down." Some have analyzed that the Dujjon Cookie craze may be a temporary trend, similar to the past "Tanghulu phenomenon." One user predicted its imminent disappearance by saying, "Tanghulu is probably waiting for Dujjon Cookie in the afterlife." However, some self-employed business owners have defended this unusual situation, saying, "Our main business is struggling, so we need additional income," describing it as a survival strategy.
