Two Weeks Starting January 26: Sharing This Year’s Policies

Jongno District in Seoul (Mayor Jung Moonheon) will embark on a tour of its 17 community centers to engage with residents as the Year of the Fire Horse begins. On January 20, the district announced that New Year's gatherings will be held at each community center from January 26 to February 11.

Jongno District to Strengthen Resident Engagement with New Year's Community Center Tour Across 17 Neighborhoods Jung Moonheon, Mayor of Jongno District, is delivering a New Year's speech at the New Year's gathering on the 6th. Provided by Jongno District.

Mayor Jung Moonheon will personally visit each community center to explain this year's district administration direction and key policies, and to listen to feedback on site. The events will be attended by the mayor, heads of relevant departments, resident autonomy committee chairs, local leaders, and heads of professional organizations. Mayor Jung will offer New Year's greetings, outline the district's priority policies for the year, and listen to residents' opinions.

The schedule begins with Sungin 2-dong and Sungin 1-dong on January 26, followed by Changsin 3-dong on January 27, Changsin 2-dong and Changsin 1-dong on January 29, and Hyehwa-dong and Jongno 5·6-ga-dong on January 30. In February, the gatherings will be held in Pyeongchang-dong and Ihwa-dong on the 2nd, Jongno 1·2·3·4-ga-dong on the 3rd, Samcheong-dong on the 4th, Gyonam-dong on the 5th, Muak-dong on the 6th, Buam-dong on the 9th, Sajik-dong on the 10th, and Gahoe-dong and Cheongunhyoja-dong on the 11th.

At last year's New Year's gatherings, 177 suggestions were received, and approximately 140 of them were implemented. The opportunity for direct communication with the mayor and department heads has been credited with improving resident satisfaction by resolving civil complaints.

This year, the district plans to focus on rational urban space reorganization while respecting its 631-year history and tradition. Tailored redevelopment projects will be promoted in areas such as Haengchon-dong, Changsin-dong, and Sungin-dong, with efforts to improve the educational environment as well. Specialized programs will be offered, including special selection opportunities for Seoul Science High School's gifted education center for local middle school students, one-on-one mentoring, and math and science camps. Near Tapgol Park, which has been designated as the district's first alcohol-free zone, a "Tapgol Senior Citizens' Cultural Playground" will be created, and the "Jongno Good Life Challenge" will continue.

Mayor Jung Moonheon stated, "Meeting residents in person to share district plans and hear voices from the field is a meaningful way to start the New Year," adding, "I will do my utmost to achieve balanced regional development and improve residents' convenience."
