Since 1983, the National Library of Korea has been responsible for the retraining of incumbent librarians, and it is pursuing education with the goal of nurturing future talent capable of responding to the rapidly changing library environment. The 2026 librarian training program will be conducted to strengthen AI and data utilization capabilities, while also enhancing job expertise, communication, and leadership skills.
This year, in particular, AI and data training will be significantly expanded. The AI training will consist of 9 courses with 14 sessions for about 2,000 participants, focusing on improving work efficiency and user services through practical training in report writing, promotional material production, and the implementation of chatbots and web pages. The data training will include 13 courses with 26 sessions for approximately 3,000 participants, covering practical skills in data collection, analysis, and visualization to strengthen data-driven decision-making capabilities.
In addition, traditional core library work training such as collection management, material classification and cataloging, and preservation and restoration will be provided, alongside communication and leadership programs such as 'Enhancing User Service Skills' and 'Library Manager Course.' Field-oriented participatory training, including the 'Library Talent Development Workshop,' 'Librarian Hanmadang,' and 'Librarian Learning Community,' will also be offered.
To support continuous digital-based learning, the National Library of Korea plans to expand its e-learning courses and develop new online content based on popular in-person training sessions. The annual curriculum and application procedures for the 2026 training program can be found on the Librarian Education Portal.
