Kakao Entertainment Accelerates IP Expansion
Produced by Korean Studio EEK
Kakao Entertainment's flagship intellectual property (IP) "Tomb Raider King," which has recorded 500 million views, is being reborn as an animated series.
On January 19, Kakao Entertainment announced that the animation based on the webtoon and web novel "Tomb Raider King" will air on major Japanese broadcasters such as Fuji TV and Kansai TV this July. In Korea, it will be released through Aniplus, and global viewers will also be able to watch it via international streaming platforms.
"Tomb Raider King" is a fantasy series that tells the story of Seo Jooheon, who becomes a hero by claiming relics from mysterious tombs. With its solid narrative and fast-paced development, both the web novel and webtoon have gained immense popularity.
The animation is being produced by the domestic studio IK, which has been recognized for its capabilities through works such as "Leafie, a Hen into the Wild" and the "The Haunted House" series.
The voice cast lineup is also impressive. Yoshimasa Hosoya, known for his roles in "Attack on Titan" and "Demon Slayer," will voice Seo Jooheon, while Saori Hayami, famous for her role as Yor Forger in "Spy x Family," will voice Irene Holton. The opening song "Show Down" will be performed by the girl band QWER.
A Kakao Entertainment representative stated, "This is a project where the power of a proven original meets the technical prowess of a Korean production studio," adding, "It will serve as an opportunity to demonstrate the value of K-webtoon IP in the global market."
