Come-From-Behind Victory at the Sony Open, PGA Tour Season Opener
Using Equipment from Ping, TaylorMade, and Bridgestone
Outstanding in Driving Distance, Fairway Accuracy, and Greens in Regulation
Chris Gotterup (USA) secured his victory with a flawless performance.
On January 18 (local time), he claimed the title at the Sony Open on the PGA Tour (total prize money: 9.1 million dollars), held at Waialae Country Club (par 70, 7,044 yards) in Honolulu, Hawaii. This marks his third career PGA Tour win, following the 2024 Myrtle Beach Classic and last year's Genesis Scottish Open. The winner's prize is 1,638,000 dollars (approximately 2.4 billion won). Notably, his consistency stands out as he has managed to win at least one tournament each year.

Gotterup demonstrated steady skill on the final day, recording seven birdies and one bogey. After consecutive birdies on the 2nd and 3rd holes, he took a brief pause with a bogey on the 4th hole (par 3), then delivered a birdie show on the 7th, 9th, 12th, 13th, and 17th holes. Gotterup uses a variety of equipment: a Ping driver, TaylorMade fairway woods and wedges, and Bridgestone irons and golf balls.
His unwavering shots in the fourth round were particularly impressive. He ranked 8th in average driving distance (326.70 yards), tied for 5th in fairway accuracy (78.57%), 1st in both greens in regulation (88.89%) and bunker save percentage (100%), tied for 1st in scrambling (100%), and tied for 9th in putts per green in regulation (1.63). Starting from a tie for second, two strokes behind, he achieved a come-from-behind victory by two strokes.
