"Bank of England Analyst Warns: 'If Aliens Appear, Crypto Could Soar'"

"Extreme price volatility in financial markets... Destabilization likely"
"Could become a factor that makes cryptocurrencies more attractive"

A former analyst at the Bank of England (BOE) reportedly sent a letter to Governor Andrew Bailey, advising that the institution should prepare for the shock that could arise from the possible public disclosure of extraterrestrial life. The analyst predicted that if the existence of aliens were officially confirmed, financial markets could experience severe turmoil, and demand for cryptocurrencies as alternative safe assets could surge.

The Sunday Times, the weekend edition of the British daily The Times, reported that former BOE analyst Helen McCaugh sent a letter to Governor Bailey, urging him to prepare for the possibility that the Trump administration might disclose the existence of extraterrestrial life.

Helen McCaugh is known to have participated in the Bank of England's efforts to develop response strategies for virtual economic crisis scenarios. The scenario she is concerned about is the possibility that U.S. President Donald Trump could officially acknowledge the existence of aliens. According to The Sunday Times, McCaugh predicted that if the existence of extraterrestrial life were officially recognized, it could cause a major shock to public perception and behavior.

She wrote, "If market participants feel uncertainty in pricing assets as they have traditionally done, excessive pessimism or optimism could lead to extreme price volatility and a collapse of trust in financial markets. If an official announcement is made and undeniable, clear evidence of aliens is presented, financial markets could become completely destabilized within just a few hours."

McCaugh also argued that, as a result of such a shock, demand for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin could surge. In her letter, she wrote, "If people begin to question the legitimacy of governments and lose trust in government-backed assets, demand for cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin could increase dramatically. This could become a factor that makes cryptocurrencies more attractive."

Meanwhile, the U.S. prediction market platform Polymarket currently estimates the probability that the U.S. government will disclose the existence of aliens before 2027 at around 12 percent.
