Jeonnam Office of Education: "One Day a Month, Dine Out"... Staff Cafeteria to Close Monthly

Revitalizing the Local Economy and Improving Working Conditions for Kitchen Staff

The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education will implement a monthly closure policy for its staff cafeteria starting this month, aiming to revitalize the local economy and improve working conditions for cafeteria kitchen staff.

On January 19, the Office announced that it is introducing this policy to flexibly adjust the operation of its staff cafeteria, encourage employees to dine at local restaurants, and fulfill the public sector's role in boosting the local economy.

This initiative also reflects the need to improve the working environment for kitchen staff, as concerns have been continuously raised about accumulated fatigue and the risk of industrial accidents due to excessive cooking work.

Under the new policy, the last Friday of every month will be designated as a cafeteria closure day, and employees will be encouraged to use nearby local restaurants on that day. The Office also plans to promote the use of local currency and Onnuri gift certificates to ensure that spending circulates within the local community.

The Office expects that this policy will not only stimulate the local economy by increasing patronage of local restaurants and boosting sales for local businesses, but also serve as a model case for public institutions implementing such initiatives on the ground.

Additionally, the policy is expected to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of cafeteria operations and improve internal satisfaction by bettering the working conditions of kitchen staff.

Superintendent Kim Daejung stated, "The implementation of the cafeteria closure policy aims to maximize the effect of revitalizing the local economy through policy alignment with the Jeonnam Provincial Government, while simultaneously improving our internal working environment. We will continue to pursue policies that promote mutual growth with the local community."
