124 Honorees Recognized for Dedication to Jokgu's Development
Jokgu Emerges as an Official Event at This Year's National Sports Festival
Who are the figures who have shined in K-sports "Jokgu," which has emerged as an official event at the National Sports Festival this year?
The 2025 Korea Jokgu Awards Ceremony, organized by the Korea Jokgu Association (President Lee Daejae) under the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee to recognize individuals and organizations that have contributed to the development of Jokgu, was held on the 17th at Hotel Sunshine in Daejeon.
The "Korea Jokgu Awards" is an annual event that honors those who have dedicated themselves to the balanced development of Jokgu-a traditional Korean sport-across both recreational and professional levels. The awards aim to foster pride among Jokgu enthusiasts and provide momentum for the sport's continued growth.
Approximately 250 awardees and officials attended this year’s ceremony. A total of 124 individuals were recognized across various categories, including merit awards, appreciation plaques, athlete awards, group awards, referee awards, and coach awards. Nominees were recommended by city and provincial Jokgu associations and committees under the Korea Jokgu Association (President Lee Daejae), and the final recipients were selected through a review by the association's Sports Fairness Committee.
Lee Daejae, President of the Korea Jokgu Association, emphasized, "The Korea Jokgu Awards is a meaningful occasion to express our gratitude to those who have quietly dedicated themselves to the advancement of Jokgu."
He added, "I hope this event will promote unity among Jokgu players and serve as an opportunity for Jokgu to become even more beloved as a national sport."
The Korea Jokgu Association continues to actively pursue various initiatives, including the Division League project, hosting nationwide, official, and delegated tournaments, and programs for training coaches and referees. After years as a demonstration sport, Jokgu was officially adopted as an event at the National Sports Festival last year, marking a significant achievement. The association remains committed to expanding the sport’s base, fostering systematic development, and promoting Jokgu on the global stage.
