Divided Roles Such as Acting as Lookouts During the Crime
Teenagers attempting to steal jewelry from a gold and silver shop to raise money to buy a motorcycle in the early morning hours have been apprehended by the police.
On January 19, Gwangju Bukbu Police Station announced that it is investigating four teenagers, including high school student A, on charges of attempted aggravated theft.
The suspects, who are students at a high school in Jeongeup, North Jeolla Province, are accused of entering a gold and silver shop in Unam-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju at around 3:40 a.m. on January 17 and attempting to steal jewelry.
According to the investigation, A broke the shop’s window with a brick he had prepared in advance and entered the premises. However, the attempt failed because there was no jewelry stored in the display case. The other three accomplices acted as lookouts outside the shop while A attempted the theft.
After receiving a report from the victim, the police analyzed security camera footage and tracked the suspects’ movements. All four were apprehended in the Jeongeup area of North Jeolla Province at around 2:00 p.m. on January 18, just one day after the crime.
During police questioning, A and the others stated that they committed the crime because they needed money to buy a motorcycle.
The police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident and are considering applying for arrest warrants.
