Hwacheon County Offers Agricultural Product Vouchers to Paid Sancheoneo Ice Fishing Visitors
Tourists Enjoy Affordable Local Goods While Farmers Gain Extra Off-Season Income
The 2026 Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival is receiving positive reviews from both tourists and local farmers.
On the weekend of the 17th, the festival site of the Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival was bustling with tourists, causing the local agricultural and specialty products market within the festival grounds to be crowded. Provided by Hwacheon County
This is because the festival embodies the reciprocal spirit that "everyone should enjoy the festival."
Hwacheon County has set up and is operating three local agricultural and specialty products markets within the festival grounds.
At these markets, visitors can purchase agricultural and specialty products prepared by local farmers, as well as processed foods made from these ingredients, all at affordable prices.
In particular, paying tourists who participate in the Sancheoneo ice fishing can receive a 5,000 won voucher for local agricultural and specialty products when they pay the 15,000 won admission fee, making it possible to buy agricultural products at an even lower price.
Since the festival opened on January 10, up to January 18, the agricultural and specialty products markets at the festival site have generated sales totaling approximately 327 million won.
If the current trend continues, total sales are expected to easily surpass 1 billion won by the end of the festival.
Tourists can purchase high-quality agricultural products at affordable prices at the festival, while farmers are able to earn a substantial income during the off-season.
Although prices are low, the quality is excellent. Every year, Hwacheon County collects agricultural products for sale from local farmers and conducts a strict inspection process.
The range of products is diverse, from Hwacheon Mulbitnuri rice to various wild greens, nuts, mushrooms, grains, sesame oil, and perilla oil-almost everything is available.
Processed foods made from ingredients sourced in Hwacheon, such as apple juice, Hangwa (traditional Korean sweets), and traditional liquors, are also attracting the attention of tourists.
Choi Moonsoon, Governor of Hwacheon County, said, "Thanks to the many people visiting the agricultural products markets, local farmers are gaining strength," and added, "We will repay the tourists who come to the festival with the highest-quality local agricultural and specialty products."
