The police have launched a compulsory investigation into allegations that the wife of Kim Byungki, a lawmaker from the Democratic Party of Korea, misused the district council's business promotion expenses for personal purposes.
The Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on January 19 that, starting at 7 a.m., it was conducting search and seizure operations at three locations, including the Dongjak District Council, the office of former district council member Cho, and her residence.
The lawmaker's wife is suspected of having misappropriated the corporate card for business promotion expenses belonging to former council member Cho in 2022 for personal use.
A police official stated, "We plan to continue the investigation through analysis of the seized materials and by summoning those involved for questioning."
