Former Uijeongbu Mayor Ahn Byungyong will hold a book launch event on February 7, officially beginning his campaign for the 2026 local elections as a candidate for Uijeongbu Mayor.
On January 19, former Mayor Ahn announced that he would host a book launch event for his new book, "Ahn Byungyong's Dream, Toward the Citizens!" at Uijeongbu Island Castle at 2 p.m. on February 7. This event is expected to mark his official political comeback, ending his hiatus after serving as Uijeongbu's first three-term mayor (in the 5th, 6th, and 7th popularly elected terms).
The new book, "Ahn Byungyong's Dream, Toward the Citizens!" is a comprehensive collection of former Mayor Ahn's philosophy as both a scholar of public administration and a practical administrator. Divided into six sections, the book covers his 31-year career in education, his reflections on 12 years as mayor, and his vision for the future of Uijeongbu.
In his foreword, former Mayor Ahn stated, "Uijeongbu, which has suffered for many years due to the presence of U.S. military bases, must now seize this critical moment to transform from an 'ugly duckling' into a 'swan' and soar," expressing his determination to run by adding, "At this crucial time that will determine Uijeongbu's next 100 years, I am ready to lace up my shoes once again."
Of particular note is his close relationship with President Lee Jaemyung. During his tenure as chairman of the Gyeonggi-do Mayors and County Governors Association in the 7th term, Ahn worked closely with then-Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jaemyung on major policies such as the full implementation of free high school meals, highlighting himself as a "key partner."
Former Mayor Ahn expressed confidence, saying, "As someone who knows President Lee Jaemyung and government ministers well and communicates with them directly, I am the only qualified candidate who can secure full support for Uijeongbu's development."
Former Mayor Ahn is known as a "scholarly administrative expert," having graduated from Chung-Ang University with a degree in political science and international relations and earned a doctorate in public administration from Dongguk University. He was called a "studious mayor" during his tenure and is credited with laying the theoretical foundation for the development of northern Gyeonggi Province.
Meanwhile, starting with this book launch event, former Mayor Ahn plans to begin full-scale election activities, including registering as a preliminary candidate and opening his campaign office. With about a year left until the Uijeongbu mayoral election, attention is focused on what impact the return of this so-called "master of administration" will have on the local political scene.
