Easing the Burden on Farmers
by Supplying Low-Cost By-Products for Feed and Compost
Sacheon City in South Gyeongsang Province announced on January 19 that it will implement a sales and supply plan for government-managed grain by-products in 2026 to ease the burden on agricultural and livestock farmers when purchasing feed and compost materials.
The by-products to be supplied this time include broken rice (82 KRW/kg), unpolished rice (82 KRW/kg), and rice bran (54 KRW/kg), which will be provided to farmers at prices lower than the market rate.
These by-products can be used as feed ingredients or for the production of organic fertilizers, and are expected to help reduce feed costs and stabilize farm management.
Applications will be accepted year-round, and supplies will be distributed at the end of each month.
Eligible applicants are agricultural and livestock farmers residing in Sacheon City. To apply, they must visit the Distribution Team at the Sacheon Agricultural Technology Center or the administrative welfare centers in their townships or districts, and submit an application form along with a certificate of registration as an agricultural business entity.
Until last year, phone applications were accepted due to COVID-19, but starting this year, only in-person applications are allowed in order to verify the identity of agricultural and livestock farmers.
Mayor Park Dongsik stated, "Although the supply volume is limited, I hope that government-managed grain by-products will help stabilize farmers' incomes."
