Dongjak District Expands Resident Safety Insurance Coverage... Introduces New Accident Consolation Payment

Burn Surgery Coverage Increased from 300,000 Won to 1 Million Won
Support Expanded to Seven Categories

Dongjak District in Seoul (District Mayor Park Ilha) announced on January 19 that it will expand the operation of its 'Resident Safety Insurance' starting this year.

The Resident Safety Insurance is a system designed to support the livelihood stability of residents who suffer damages from unexpected accidents or disasters in their daily lives. All residents registered in Dongjak District (including registered foreign nationals) are automatically enrolled without any separate procedures, and the district covers the entire insurance premium.

The district has expanded the coverage to provide more practical support not only for cases of death or severe injury but also during the treatment process. In addition to the existing six items-accidental death, accidental disability, injury treatment expenses from public transportation accidents, condolence payments for death from acute infectious diseases, burn surgery expenses, and accommodation expenses for fire victims-a new benefit, 'Accident Diagnosis Consolation Payment,' has been added.

The newly introduced Accident Diagnosis Consolation Payment provides 100,000 won if a resident is diagnosed with an injury (excluding traffic accidents) requiring at least four weeks of treatment during the insurance period, thereby extending support to relatively minor accidents that still require a certain period of recovery. The coverage amount for burn surgery expenses has also been significantly increased from 300,000 won to 1 million won.

Insurance claims can be filed within three years from the date of the incident, and benefits can be received in addition to other insurance payouts. The affected resident or their legal heir can submit the required documents directly to the insurance company via fax or email. Park Ilha, Mayor of Dongjak District, stated, "We have further expanded the Resident Safety Insurance to provide more practical support to residents facing difficulties due to unforeseen accidents," adding, "We will continue to establish a robust safety net so that residents can live with peace of mind."
