Gyeonggi Province to Provide 692.8 Billion Won in Eco-Friendly Vehicle Purchase Subsidies This Year

Gyeonggi Province will provide a total of 692.8 billion won in support this year to residents who purchase electric or hydrogen vehicles, in an effort to expand the adoption of eco-friendly cars. This amount represents a 22% increase compared to the previous year's 568.7 billion won.

This year, Gyeonggi Province has allocated a budget of 464.7 billion won for electric vehicle purchase subsidies. The maximum subsidy amounts are up to 8.3 million won for passenger cars, up to 91 million won for vans, up to 149.5 million won for children's school buses, and up to 18.3 million won for trucks.

Starting this year, if a resident scraps or sells an internal combustion engine vehicle that has been in use for more than three years since its initial release and purchases an electric vehicle, they will receive an additional subsidy of up to 1.3 million won, further reducing the financial burden of buying an electric car.

The subsidy budget for hydrogen vehicle purchases is 228.1 billion won, with up to 35 million won available for passenger cars and up to 346.4 million won for buses. In particular, reflecting the growing demand from transportation companies for hydrogen buses, which are advantageous for long-distance travel, the province will support 535 hydrogen buses this year-a 72% increase compared to last year.

Due to the temporary stagnation in demand before electric vehicles become mainstream (referred to as the "EV chasm"), the number of electric vehicles supplied had been sluggish. However, in 2025, the number of electric vehicles supplied reached an all-time high of 39,736 units, a 33% increase compared to 2024.

Those wishing to purchase an eco-friendly vehicle can visit a nearby car dealership for guidance. After consultation, if they fill out and submit the application for purchase support and the contract, the dealership will handle the related procedures, including submitting the documents to the relevant city or county office.

Detailed information on eligible vehicle models, subsidy amounts, and application methods for eco-friendly vehicle purchases can be found on the websites of the respective city or county offices or in the announcement on the Zero Emission Vehicle Integrated Website (www.ev.or.kr).

Jung Hankyu, Director of the Advanced Mobility Industry Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "As demand for eco-friendly vehicles is beginning to recover in earnest, we will actively promote support projects this year so that Gyeonggi Province can serve as a catalyst for accelerating the adoption of eco-friendly vehicles. We encourage many residents to participate in the eco-friendly vehicle purchase support program."

As of the end of last year, there were 207,075 electric vehicles and 10,064 hydrogen vehicles registered in the province.
