According to the comprehensive forecast from the Korea Meteorological Administration on January 18, the atmosphere across the country will be extremely dry on this last day of the weekend, especially along the east coast.

Between the early morning and morning hours of January 19, rain or snow is expected in the central region, Jeonbuk, and parts of inland Gyeongbuk. From January 20, temperatures are forecast to drop sharply in most regions nationwide, marking the onset of a severe cold wave. Caution is advised due to the increased risk of fires, icy roads, and rough seas.

Due to the influence of a low-pressure system over the East Sea, rain or snow is expected from the night of January 18 through the early morning of January 19 in the northern coastal and mountainous areas of Gangwon.

In Seoul, only light flurries are expected, with little to no measurable snowfall (less than 0.1 cm). This is because cold, dry air descending from the north is expected to keep the lower atmosphere dry, causing snow and rain falling from higher altitudes to evaporate before reaching the ground.

On January 19, expected snowfall is 1 to 5 cm for Ulleungdo and Dokdo, 1 to 3 cm for the mountainous areas of Gangwon, around 1 cm for inland Gangwon, the northern east coast of Gangwon, Chungcheong, and Jeonbuk, and less than 1 cm for eastern Gyeonggi, southwestern Gyeonggi, southwestern inland Gyeongbuk, northern inland Gyeongbuk, northeastern mountainous Gyeongbuk, and western inland Gyeongnam. Precipitation amounts are forecast to be around or less than 1 mm in most areas, except for Ulleungdo and Dokdo, where 5 to 10 mm is expected.

From January 20 to 25, the minimum temperature in Seoul is forecast to drop below minus 10 degrees Celsius.

On January 20, morning lows nationwide are expected to range from minus 17 to minus 3 degrees Celsius, with daytime highs between minus 4 and 6 degrees. On January 21, morning lows are forecast between minus 16 and minus 5 degrees, with highs between minus 6 and 3 degrees. On January 22, morning temperatures are expected to be between minus 15 and minus 7 degrees, with daytime highs between minus 4 and 3 degrees. From January 23 to 24, morning lows will range from minus 14 to minus 3 degrees, with highs between minus 2 and 5 degrees. From January 25 to 28, morning lows are forecast between minus 13 and 0 degrees, and daytime highs between minus 3 and 7 degrees.
