Building the Largest Care Infrastructure in the Province
Comprehensive Support for Elementary, Vacation, and Emergency Care
Strengthening Work-Life Balance Assistance
Expanding Regional Childcare Hubs and Enhancing Accessibility
Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province has allocated 223.5 billion won, accounting for 11% of its 2026 general fund budget, to the child welfare sector, including care and childcare services, as part of its efforts to create a city that is ideal for raising children.
The city plans to establish a comprehensive care environment that both parents and children can experience, focusing on expanding care services throughout the life cycle, strengthening public care infrastructure, and alleviating the burden of child-rearing.
The city aims to: ▲ maintain the largest care infrastructure in the province and minimize gaps in after-school care for elementary students; ▲ expand the reach and accessibility of child care services while simultaneously strengthening the workforce; and ▲ enhance the 365-day care system, extend night care hours, and build a robust safety net for childcare. The city will also establish a new Comprehensive Childcare Support Center in the Gangseo area this year to strengthen support systems by region.
The Toy Library will introduce an integrated membership system, allowing users to access all four locations at once. Additionally, the Ainuri Toy Library Songjeong Branch will be relocated to the 'Sangsang' Children's Cultural Space in Wonpyeong-dong to improve the user environment.
Kim Jangho, Mayor of Gumi, stated, "Citizens are experiencing real changes in their daily lives through the Gumi-style all-day care system," adding, "We will steadily build a city for parenting and care that benefits the everyday lives of both parents and children."
