The province responded enthusiastically, noting that Prime Minister Kim's remarks represent the official recognition by the Lee Jaemyung administration of the "Global City for Future Industries" vision that was planned three years ago with the launch of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province.
At the briefing, Prime Minister Kim Minseok praised the semiconductor industry as "Gangwon Province's global vision," and pledged to actively foster future industries, including the establishment of a semiconductor cluster centered on Chuncheon, Wonju, and Gangneung, as well as the creation of an advanced medical complex.
In response, the province stated, "It has now become clear that Gangwon Province's semiconductor strategy is fully aligned with the government's core national agenda," adding that it expects comprehensive budgetary and administrative support from the government for everything from workforce development and testbed construction to attracting companies.
The province also emphasized the urgent need to establish a legal foundation in order for the "Five Megacities, Three Special Self-Governing Provinces" strategy-Lee Jaemyung administration's national balanced development model-to achieve tangible results.
An official from Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province added, "This national policy briefing has clarified the future industrial roadmap for Gangwon Province," and stated, "In step with the government, we will develop Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province into a forward base for Korea's future industries."
