While Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, has begun a hunger strike demanding the so-called "dual special prosecutors," Lee Junseok, leader of the Reform New Party, has decided to cut short his overseas schedule and return to Korea early.
On January 17, the Reform New Party announced, "Leader Lee was originally scheduled to return on the 23rd after completing parliamentary diplomacy activities in Mexico and Guatemala with Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Joo Ho-young, but he has moved his return up to the 21st." After returning, Lee is expected to consult with Jang on measures to urge the Democratic Party of Korea to accept special prosecutors for the Unification Church and nomination fund scandals.
However, while Jang continues his hunger strike, there are currently no plans for Lee to join him in a joint hunger strike.
Meanwhile, regarding the recent apology by People Power Party spokesperson Lee Jaeneung, who had previously claimed that the Reform New Party was "selling nominations for 4 billion won," Lee Junseok stated on Facebook, "I appreciate the courage to admit and correct a mistake." He added, "I hope this was not an attack based on false information," and said, "I will regard this as a mistake made out of habit."
Previously, the Reform New Party had protested the remarks, saying they "undermine cooperation on the special prosecutor issue."
