The Gangwon Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education announced on January 16 that it will conduct regular safety and health training for workers in the first half of 2026, targeting approximately 5,600 on-site workers at schools and affiliated institutions, in order to prevent industrial accidents and strengthen safety and health awareness.

This regular safety and health training for workers will be held as group training sessions organized by the provincial office of education in 17 regions across the province, utilizing the winter vacation period from January 13 to February 11.

The training covers topics such as the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, industrial safety and accident prevention for workers, and issues related to Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and major disease topics. The training is outsourced to safety and health education institutions registered with the Ministry of Employment and Labor. In addition, online training will be provided for those who are unable to attend the group sessions.

Furthermore, a “visiting health program” in collaboration with the Gangwon Workers’ Health Center will be operated to actively support the health management of on-site workers.

This program will visit the sites of regular group training sessions once each in the first and second half of the year in all 17 regions of the province until December this year, providing services such as health consultations for occupational disease prevention, prevention and management of musculoskeletal and cerebrocardiovascular diseases, and tests for blood pressure, blood sugar, and simple cholesterol.

In particular, this year, professional staff such as occupational health nurses and physical therapists from the Gangwon Workers’ Health Center will visit the training sites in person to provide more systematic health consultations and preventive education.

Additionally, to prevent health risks and promote the health of on-site workers, occupational health physician consultations will also be provided. Three occupational health physicians appointed by the Office of Education, consisting of specialists in occupational and environmental medicine or preventive medicine as stipulated by the Medical Service Act, will visit 36 schools and institutions by December to provide evaluations of work suitability for those with illnesses or industrial accidents, health consultations and medical measures based on general health examination results, and guidance and advice on working environments.

Kim Myungbok, Director of the Safety and Welfare Division, stated, “I hope this regular safety and health training for workers in the first half of the year will serve as an opportunity for field workers to develop the capacity to create a healthy and safe working environment for themselves,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to prevent industrial accidents and protect and promote the health of workers at schools and institutions through on-site health consultations by occupational health physicians and health programs in collaboration with the Gangwon Workers’ Health Center.”
