Following a bus crash into a building at the Seodaemun Station intersection in Seoul, the bus driver told police that the brakes did not work.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, the bus driver involved in the traffic accident near Seodaemun Station at around 1:15 p.m. on January 16 is a man in his 50s. He stated to police that the brakes were not functioning at the time of the accident.
The bus driver tested negative for alcohol, and a rapid drug test also returned negative results.
The police plan to request a forensic analysis from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of the accident, including the possibility of a vehicle defect.
So far, 13 people, including the bus driver, have been injured in the accident. Among them, two pedestrians are in serious condition. Eight people, including the pedestrians (two seriously injured and six with minor injuries), were transported to the hospital.
The fire authorities deployed 66 personnel and 18 pieces of equipment to manage the accident scene.
