Hwangridan-gil, which has been selected as the 'Tourist Destination of the Year' for 2025, is adjacent to major attractions such as Cheomseongdae and Cheonmachong, resulting in a steady increase in tourist visits.

As a result, both residents and tourists have experienced inconvenience due to a lack of parking spaces and worsening traffic congestion.

To address the parking shortage, the city of Gyeongju invested a total project cost of 24.5 billion won, launching the detailed design in 2021 and completing preliminary administrative procedures and land compensation by 2024.

Subsequently, construction began in May of last year and was completed in December of the same year, securing a total of 894 parking spaces.

The parking lot is now open and in operation for residents and tourists.

To improve convenience for parking lot users, the city has deployed four city buses and established three new routes circulating through sites such as the Eastern Historic Area.

Among these, the city is also considering operating at least one double-decker bus by the second half of the year at the latest.

The Hwangridan-gil public parking lot will be operated free of charge until the first half of this year. In the second half, management will be transferred to the Gyeongju Facilities Management Corporation, and paid operation is planned.

The city aims to enhance both user convenience and management efficiency through a phased transition of operations.

Gyeongju expects that the completion of the public parking lot and the associated transportation measures will improve parking conditions in the Hwangridan-gil area and further streamline tourist flows within the city center.

Mayor Joo Nakyoung stated, "The establishment of the Hwangridan-gil public parking lot is expected to significantly alleviate parking inconveniences for both residents and tourists," adding, "We will continue to make efforts to expand infrastructure that enhances citizens' quality of life and revitalizes tourism."
