"Holding accountable for bringing down the administration through power struggles"
"Proper liquidation and a fresh start are needed"
Former Mayor of Daegu, Hong Joonpyo, targeted former People Power Party leader Han Donghoon, insisting that "if traitors are not punished, more traitors will emerge," and argued that the party should expel Han.
On the 15th, Hong stated on his social networking service (SNS) account, "The reason Han Donghoon should be expelled is to hold him accountable for bringing down the administration while engaging in a power struggle with Yoon Sukyeol."
He recalled his own political career, saying, "In my 30 years in politics, I have never formed a faction nor been a subordinate to any faction. Members of the National Assembly are, according to the Constitution, independent legislative bodies, and such members should be respected and deserve respect."
He continued, "Even when the Park Geunhye administration collapsed, the core pro-Park figures survived, and they still act as the core of that party. The absence of responsible politics also led to the collapse of the Yoon Sukyeol administration. It is sad and even pitiful that members of the National Assembly have become mere subordinates of factions, not leaders of the people."
Hong emphasized, "The core value of conservatism is responsible politics," and lamented, "Watching those who try to prolong their political careers through irresponsibility and shamelessness, I am once again struck by the despair that the party is truly beyond recovery."
"Self-destruction through power struggles... Proper liquidation and a fresh start are needed"
On the 13th, Hong also criticized Han.
Hong said, regarding the death penalty sought for former President Yoon Sukyeol and the decision to expel Han, "This is self-destruction through power struggles," and argued, "The impeachment of Park Geunhye was due to internal party division, and the impeachment of Yoon Sukyeol was also due to internal party division."
He further criticized, "Park Geunhye self-destructed in a power struggle with Yoo Seungmin, former leader of the New Conservative Party, and Kim Moo-sung, former leader of the Saenuri Party, while former President Yoon self-destructed in a power struggle with Han. How did the conservative party end up making the foolish mistake of being impeached twice?"
Hong also pointed out that former Presidents Lee Myungbak, Park Geunhye, and Yoon Sukyeol-all produced by the conservative party-ended up in prison one after another, saying, "I left that party, so it's not my concern, but it's because they failed to purge the forces that destabilized the country."
He added, "This time, properly liquidate and start anew. Never allow political prosecutors to meddle in that party again. If traitors are left unchecked, such incidents will happen again."
