On January 16, President Lee Jaemyung announced on his Facebook page, "The first town hall meeting of the new year 2026 will be held in Ulsan, the heart of Korea's industry." The Ulsan town hall meeting is scheduled to take place on January 23, with 200 local residents in attendance.
President Lee stated, "For the past 60 years, Ulsan has been at the center of Korea's economic growth, leading our manufacturing industries such as automobiles, petrochemicals, and shipbuilding." He emphasized, "Now is the time to move beyond being the industrial capital and to pioneer new paths in manufacturing AI and green industries."
He went on to say, "The government will make this year the 'first year of a great leap forward through transformation,' and plans to accelerate the shift from growth centered on the capital region to growth led by local areas." He added, "Ulsan will be at the forefront of this change, leading the industrial transformation of Korea as the eldest among the manufacturing belt in the southeastern region."
He also mentioned, "With the great collective intelligence of our citizens, we aim to envision the future of Ulsan and a new leap forward for Korea together."
