Through this collaboration, HMM will apply Avikus's autonomous navigation solution to 40 vessels. Unlike existing systems that were limited to navigation assistance, this solution enables ships to autonomously determine and follow optimal routes. It is expected to enhance fleet competitiveness by improving operational safety and efficiency, reducing fuel costs, and lowering carbon emissions. Depending on the results of this initial application, HMM plans to expand the adoption of autonomous navigation solutions to its entire fleet.

In addition, the three companies plan to jointly conduct research to further advance AI-based autonomous navigation technology. HMM will provide operational data resulting from the adoption of the autonomous navigation solution, Avikus will be responsible for supplying and upgrading the solution, and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will provide ship platform and technical support.

An HMM representative stated, "AI-based technology is a core driver for strengthening competitiveness in the digital and eco-friendly shipping ecosystem," adding, "We will actively participate in collaborations to enhance our global competitiveness."

A representative from HD Hyundai commented, "Autonomous navigation technology will serve as a game-changer for the shipbuilding and shipping industries in the future," and added, "By combining the strengths of the three companies, we aim to lead next-generation autonomous vessel technology and set industry standards."
