Russia has dismissed concerns that Russia and China are attempting to occupy Greenland, a Danish autonomous territory, calling such claims baseless.
According to TASS News Agency on January 15 (local time), Mariya Zakharova, Spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated during a briefing that "neither Russia nor China has ever announced such plans," and said there is no actual information confirming the claim that Russia and China are seeking to take over Greenland.

U.S. President Donald Trump has cited threats from Russia and China as reasons for the United States to take control of Greenland. In response, NATO member states in Europe, including Denmark, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, have deployed troops to Greenland.
Spokesperson Zakharova pointed out that the so-called 'Russian threat' narrative, which European and NATO countries have long asserted, has become ambiguous as the United States has unilaterally incorporated Greenland into the sphere of American interests.
She went on to describe the Western countries' military reconnaissance activities in Greenland as "yet another provocation aimed at imposing their own orders in the region."
She warned that while disputes over Greenland should be resolved in consideration of international law and the interests of local residents, Russia will not tolerate any attempts to ignore its interests in the Arctic region, especially those related to security.
