The Jeonnam Provincial Council announced on January 15 that the Special Committee for Supporting the Establishment of the National Medical School at Jeonnam Integrated University has called for active participation from members ahead of the re-vote on promoting the integrated university at Suncheon National University.
On this day, the special committee sent an appeal to members of Suncheon National University, stating, "The establishment of a national medical school in Jeonnam is no longer a distant discussion but is now imminent," and added, "The government is moving the discussion on increasing medical school enrollment to the Health and Medical Policy Review Committee, formally initiating the policy decision process."

The special committee explained the purpose of the re-vote by saying, "This re-vote is a procedure to reaffirm the will of the university members and to declare it both internally and externally, in the context of a changed policy environment and a clarified national direction."
Currently, Jeonnam Province faces one of the lowest levels of emergency medical service accessibility nationwide and suffers from poor essential healthcare infrastructure. In addition, the region is grappling with structural challenges such as an aging population and the outflow of young people.
The special committee emphasized, "Establishing a national medical school is a crucial opportunity to resolve these regional challenges and to provide the university with a new momentum for development," adding, "In particular, this re-vote is the final watershed moment to demonstrate Jeonnam's strong commitment to integration to the government ahead of the Ministry of Education's review of the university merger."
The committee continued, "Each vote cast by members goes beyond a simple expression of opinion and will serve as decisive evidence guiding the government's policy decisions," and stated, "Only when we speak with one united voice can we accelerate the establishment of the Jeonnam National Medical School, which aims to open in 2027."
The special committee added, "We hope that the re-vote will be a process of voluntary participation without any burden or pressure," and said, "Each individual's choice will be fully respected as the result of responsible deliberation by the university community."
Furthermore, the committee urged, "As the main agents deciding the future of the university, please participate actively in this re-vote," and stressed, "Your wise decisions will be a valuable foundation for filling essential healthcare gaps and creating a sustainable Jeonnam where young people can pursue their dreams with confidence."
The committee concluded by saying, "Please cast your precious vote for the centennial future of Suncheon National University and Jeonnam Province," and emphasized, "Now, your choice will be the most definitive conclusion."
