Man in His 60s Dies After Wild Boar Attack While Collecting Gorosoe Sap in Gwangyang

A man in his 60s died after being attacked by a wild boar while collecting sap from a gorosoe tree in a mountain near Gwangyang, South Jeolla Province.

According to the Gwangyang Police Station and fire authorities on January 15, a report was received at 12:19 p.m. on January 13 that Mr. A (63) was found collapsed in a mountain near Hajo Village in Bonggang-myeon, Gwangyang City.

When the 119 emergency rescue team arrived at the scene in response to the report, Mr. A was already in cardiac arrest. He was immediately transported to the hospital but ultimately passed away.

An investigation revealed that Mr. A had gone up the mountain around 11 a.m. that day to collect gorosoe sap and met with the accident. Police collected a wooden stick Mr. A had with him at the scene, and found significant bloodstains and wild boar hair on it, leading them to believe that Mr. A resisted the wild boar's attack.

A police official stated, "External injuries consistent with a wild boar attack were found on the deceased Mr. A's body," adding, "We are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident and the cause of death."
