Jeollanam-do to Gather Residents' Opinions on Administrative Integration with Visits to 22 Cities and Counties

Jeollanam-do announced that it will hold a series of public hearings across its 22 cities and counties, starting with Yeongam County on January 19, to gather residents' opinions on the administrative integration of Gwangju and Jeonnam.

This public hearing is jointly hosted by Jeollanam-do, the 22 cities and counties, the Jeonnam city and county education offices, and the Jeonnam Research Institute. The events will be held at large public venues such as cultural and arts centers or main auditoriums in each city or county, where many residents can participate.

Anyone interested in the administrative integration-including neighborhood and community leaders, members of residents’ councils, representatives from organizations and social groups, local government officials, and public servants-can attend. Pre-registration is available via the QR code on the public hearing promotional materials, and on-site registration will also be accepted on the day of the event.

At the hearings, Jeollanam-do Governor Kim Young-rok will personally explain in detail the necessity and justification for administrative integration, the progress of the initiative, future plans, and key special provisions. He will also focus on increasing residents’ acceptance and building consensus through live Q&A sessions at each venue.

For residents unable to attend in person, the hearings will be broadcast live through Jeollanam-do’s YouTube channel to share the progress of the administrative integration initiative.

Jeollanam-do plans to carefully review the opinions presented at the hearings and actively reflect them in the integration discussions and future policy planning. At the same time, the province will ensure that underdeveloped areas, such as rural and fishing communities, are not marginalized by preparing thorough administrative and financial measures.

Additionally, Jeollanam-do will operate the “Gwangju-Jeonnam Administrative Integration Pan-City and Provincial Residents’ Council,” composed of opinion leaders representing both cities and the province, to create a forum for deliberation and public discussion. By linking with online communication platforms, the province will establish channels for residents to freely express their views anytime and anywhere.

Governor Kim stated, “Gwangju and Jeonnam are writing a new chapter of grand integration, breaking down 40 years of administrative boundaries and leading a great revival.” He added, “We will seize this unprecedented opportunity, as the Lee Jaemyung administration has pledged full support for a groundbreaking transformation in the development of the Honam region.” He further emphasized, “Above all, by making this public hearing the starting point for prioritizing residents’ opinions, we will listen carefully to every single voice and achieve grand integration together with the people.”
